Here at Neurosciences Queensland, we offer injection therapy using Botulinum toxin. This is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It helps to relax overly tense muscle by blocking the nerve signal to that muscle, preventing an overactive muscle from contracting.
Botulinum toxin can be used to treat a range of conditions including:
-
Cervical Dystonia
-
Blepharospasm
-
Hemi facial spasm
-
Focal spasticity
-
Axillary Hyperhidrosis
-
Chronic Migraine
Our experienced Neurologists administer the toxin by local injection just under the skin, a small stinging sensation is usually felt. Treatment is typically completed quickly and any discomfort subsides almost immediately. Patients are able to return to work or social activities immediately after treatment as no downtime is required. Effects of the injections are usually noticed around 7 to 14 days post-treatment with the effects lasting 3 to 4 months.
Prior to receiving injections a consult with one of our Neurologists is required to determine your suitability for treatment. If you would like further information on Botulinum toxin injections please contact the practice.
